Turkey arrests suspect in Gaziantep murder and captures fugitive in Ankara

In Gaziantep's İslahiye district, 61‑year‑old Saniye Yaşar was found injured by her daughter on 17 June 2026 and later died despite medical treatment. Police detained 34‑year‑old Ö. M., a cleaning worker living in the same apartment, and a night‑time judge ordered his detention on a charge of intentional homicide with a firearm.

In Ankara, authorities from the Polatlı district police located Umut U, a prisoner who had escaped custody and was wanted on four separate convictions totaling four years’ imprisonment. He was found hiding inside a safe in his bedroom and was taken back into prison following standard processing.
