Turkey Food Innovation Valley established by major universities
The Turkey Food Innovation Valley has been officially established following the 5th Food Innovation Summit held at Boğaziçi University. Coordinated by the Food, Beverage and Agriculture Policy Research Center (GİFT), the initiative aims to function as a ‘Silicon Valley for food’ by bridging the scientific expertise of universities with the product development needs of the industrial sector.
Several major institutions have joined the memorandum of understanding, including Boğaziçi University, Ankara University, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Çukurova University, Hacettepe University, Istanbul Technical University, Middle East Technical University, Sakarya University, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, and Yıldız Technical University. Under this structure, each founding university will specialize in a prominent product from its respective region. The valley is open to entrepreneurs and innovators looking to develop new products, improve production processes, or enhance packaging.
The summit featured 33 sessions, including panels and presentations, covering topics such as gut health, plant-based oils, and the impact of GLP-1 medications on food demand. Discussions emphasized a shift toward quality over quantity, human-centric food design, and the use of artificial intelligence for personalized nutrition.
