Turkey fuel prices surge as diesel exceeds 90 TL

Fuel prices in Turkey experienced significant increases on September 4, 2026. Diesel prices rose by approximately 7.72 to 7.76 TL per liter, while gasoline prices increased by roughly 2.47 to 2.57 TL per liter.

In major cities such as Ankara and Izmir, diesel prices officially surpassed the 90 TL per liter threshold. In Istanbul, prices approached the 89 TL mark. These hikes follow a tax adjustment on September 1, which included a 3 TL per liter increase in Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) plus 20% VAT.

The price surge is attributed to rising global oil prices, with Brent crude trading in the 95 to 96 dollar per barrel range. This volatility is driven by geopolitical tensions, specifically military escalations between the US and Iran, and Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries, which have heightened global supply concerns.
