Turkey fuel prices surge as diesel exceeds 90 TL per liter

Fuel prices in Turkey have experienced significant increases, with diesel prices surpassing the 90 TL per liter threshold in many cities, including Ankara and Izmir. This surge is driven by rising Brent crude oil prices due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and renewed conflicts between the US and Iran, alongside domestic tax adjustments.

Recent price hikes include a 7.76 TL increase for diesel and a 2.47 TL increase for gasoline. Additionally, the expiration of temporary tax exemptions and the scheduled phased increases of the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) are expected to continue driving costs upward through the end of the year. In some regions, diesel prices have reached as high as 91.65 TL.

The rising costs are impacting various sectors, including agriculture and logistics. Farmers have reported that increased fuel expenses are making it difficult to maintain production, while local officials have noted the inflationary pressure on public transportation and general consumer goods.
