Turkey HGS toll users face debt without prior notice
Drivers using the Fast Pass System (HGS) on private highways and bridges in Turkey are facing significant debt due to uncollected toll fees. These fees, often resulting from technical malfunctions, insufficient balances, or bank integration errors, are being transferred to legal enforcement proceedings without prior notification to the vehicle owners.
Drivers report that they receive no warnings via SMS or mail, only discovering the debt through messages from law offices regarding enforcement actions. This process adds attorney fees and enforcement costs to the original toll and late penalties, leading to much higher totals. While operating companies claim they are not legally required to send SMS or official notifications—stating that information is available via the e-Devlet portal—users argue that the e-Devlet warning system is insufficient and that direct legal action without prior notice is unfair.
