Turkey honey harvest begins in Ardahan and Tunceli
Beekeeping seasons are reaching their peak in the Turkish provinces of Ardahan and Tunceli, with producers harvesting honey from high-altitude meadows.
In Ardahan, the Ardahan Beekeepers Association reports that approximately 90 percent of the honey milking process is complete. The region, known for its Caucasian bee breed, expects a total production of 300 to 400 tons this season. Yields have fluctuated due to climate conditions, with per-hive averages ranging from 8 to 12 kilograms depending on local rainfall and altitude.
In Tunceli, honey harvesting has also commenced in the Nazımiye district. Producers emphasize the high quality of the honey, which is attributed to the region's endemic flora and the absence of industrial pollution, factories, and heavy vehicle traffic. The high altitude, reaching up to 2,500 meters, allows bees to forage on wild flowers until late August, resulting in products with high proline values and distinct aromas.
