Turkey hosts autism awareness initiatives and music festival

In Turkey, various initiatives are highlighting the talents and social needs of individuals with autism. In Ankara, the ‘Beyond Borders Autistic Musicians Festival’ was held, organized by the Ankara Başkent Rotary Club in collaboration with the Musa Göçmen Symphony Orchestra. During the festival, young musicians with autism performed piano, drums, accordion, kanun, and vocals alongside a professional symphony orchestra, performing a repertoire ranging from classical to rock music.

Conductor Musa Göçmen emphasized the importance of bringing autistic musicians and professional artists to the same stage to help overcome perceived boundaries through music. He noted the necessity of supporting these individuals even after they complete their formal education.

In Efeler, the Efeler Municipality Autism Life Center is providing services that extend beyond education for children. The center offers free training for autistic individuals while providing social, physical, and psychological support for their families. While children receive education, parents are encouraged to engage in sports, socialization, and self-care activities to manage the stresses of daily life and better support their children’s development.
