Turkey hosts major international chess tournaments in Sultangazi and Gaziantep

Major international chess tournaments have been held in Turkey, featuring significant prize pools and global participation.

In Sultangazi, the 9th International Istanbul Open Chess Tournament concluded after a week of competition. The event hosted 682 athletes from 19 different countries, along with participants from 45 Turkish provinces. A total of 1 million TL in cash prizes was awarded to the winners. Sultangazi Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun emphasized the municipality's commitment to supporting sports and youth.

Simultaneously, the 1st Gazi Open International Open Chess Tournament commenced in Gaziantep. The event aims to establish the city as a hub for the global chess community. Approximately 700 athletes from 23 different countries applied for the tournament. The competition features four different categories with a total prize pool of 1.5 million TL, making it one of the most significant prize-heavy international open tournaments in Turkey.
