Turkey implements 12 emergency escape ramps for road safety

Turkey has established 12 emergency escape ramps across nine provinces to enhance road safety for heavy-duty transport. These ramps are located on long, high-gradient sections of highways, state roads, and provincial roads managed by the General Directorate of Highways.

The ramps are designed to assist vehicles—including trucks, tractors, and any vehicle that loses braking capability—in decelerating or stopping safely. This infrastructure aims to prevent accidents caused by mechanical failures, overloading, or improper gear changes. Drivers are advised to enter the sand-filled ramps by centering the vehicle as much as possible and to wait in a safe location after stopping, contacting emergency services via 112 or 159.
