Turkey implements drought-resilience strategies for sunflower crops

Agricultural authorities in Turkey are implementing various strategies to combat the impact of drought on sunflower production. In Edirne, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry is conducting a multi-year project to determine the most effective planting dates and methods. The study compares three different techniques—plow tillage, harrowing, and no-till farming—across planting months of February, March, and April to optimize yield and drought resistance.

In Aydın, specifically within the Kuyucak district, officials are monitoring sunflower fields planted as a second crop due to drought conditions. Under the Agricultural Land Use Activation (TAKE) project, teams are inspecting crops for pests, such as the meadow caterpillar, and evaluating development processes ahead of the harvest. These efforts aim to ensure successful yields for farmers utilizing drought-resistant varieties.
