Turkey implements multi-method combat against stink bug pest
Agricultural authorities in Turkey are implementing multi-faceted strategies to combat the brown marmorated stink bug, a pest threatening hazelnut crops and approximately 300 other agricultural products.
In Samsun, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry has deployed 26,000 pheromone traps to attract and destroy the insects as they move toward wintering areas. This 'attract and destroy' method aims to suppress the population during the colder months.
Simultaneously, the Hazelnut Research Institute in Giresun has launched a two-year research project under TAGEM to optimize biological control. The study compares the effectiveness of releasing adult samurai wasps versus releasing parasitized stink bug eggs. This year, approximately 1.65 million samurai wasps were released to assist in natural pest management.
