Turkey's Ministry of Trade unveils new e‑commerce advertising rules

Turkey’s Ministry of Trade announced that a revised Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices Regulation will take effect on 1 August 2026. The rules tighten consumer protection across digital marketing, e‑commerce and online sales. Targeted advertising that profiles children using personal data is prohibited. Influencer posts that involve any monetary benefit, free product, discount or event participation must carry a clear “advertisement” or “promotion” label. Advertisements that feature AI‑generated digital characters must disclose that the figure is not human. Discount ads must show the lowest price recorded in the ten days prior to the discount, with perishable goods using the price immediately before the discount. Conditional‑sale promotions are brought under the same discount‑sale rules. Advertising for illegal gambling, betting, fortune‑telling and related services is banned. The time sellers have to respond to consumer complaints on platforms is cut from 72 hours to 48 hours, and advertisers must provide transparent information on the criteria used to target ads.
