Turkey imposes anti-dumping duties on Chinese sodium gluconate
The Turkish Ministry of Trade has finalized an anti-dumping investigation regarding the import of sodium gluconate originating from China. According to a decision published in the Official Gazette, additional duties will be applied to the CIF value of these imports for a period of five years to protect domestic production.
The specific tax rates vary by exporter: Weifang Jianbao Biotechnology Co., Ltd. will face a 22.5% duty, Shandong Fuyang Bio-Tech Co., Ltd. will face 24.4%, and all other Chinese exporters will be subject to a 32.9% duty. This chemical is a critical raw material used in various sectors, including construction chemicals, cleaning, textiles, and food.
In Turkey, the sole producer of this substance is the Adana-based company Sunar Mısır, which produces sodium gluconate through the fermentation of glucose derived from starch. Records indicate that Sunar Mısır was the entity that requested the initiation of the anti-dumping investigation. The decision has drawn attention due to the company's ownership and the political connections of its leadership.
