Turkey initiates school relocations and reconstruction due to earthquake risks

Authorities in Turkey are implementing measures to address earthquake safety concerns in several schools. In Eskişehir, four schools—Muzaffer Çil Anatolian High School, Ulu Önder Special Practice School, Mehmet Taş Primary School, and Fadime Sarar Girls' Anatolian Imam Hatip High School—have been ordered to evacuate due to being structurally unsound for earthquakes.

To accommodate these students, relocation plans have been established for the 2026-2027 academic year. In the Odunpazarı district, Battalgazi Middle School and Kılıçaslan Primary School will transition to a dual-education system to host displaced students. Other relocations include moving the 1st Air Supply Primary School to the Dr. Halil Akkurt Middle School building and Fadime Sarar Imam Hatip High School to the Abdurrahman Sarar Imam Hatip Middle School.

In Aydın’s Nazilli district, the reconstruction process for Sümer Primary School, which was demolished due to earthquake risks, has officially begun. The Aydın Provincial Directorate of National Education has published a tender on the Electronic Public Procurement Platform (EKAP) for the construction of a new, modern school building. The tender is scheduled to take place on September 2, 2026.
