Turkey insurance sector focuses on climate risk and disaster coverage
The Turkish insurance sector is expanding its focus on disaster and climate risk management. The Insurance Association of Turkey (TSB) will launch the ‘Insurance House’ initiative during the COP31 summit in Antalya, scheduled for November 9–20, 2026. This project aims to bring together global insurance and reinsurance stakeholders to discuss climate and disaster risk financing, sustainable insurance, and technological transformation.
In a separate discussion regarding earthquake preparedness, insurance expert Enver Şişeci noted that earthquake insurance (DASK) coverage in Turkey currently hovers around 50 percent. While DASK is legally required for property transactions, there are no direct sanctions for not maintaining coverage after the initial purchase. Şişeci highlighted the need for increased insurance awareness and warned against fraudulent practices where policies are issued for incorrect property sizes.
