Turkey intensifies seafood and fishing inspections
Authorities in Turkey have intensified inspections of seafood products and fishing activities following the start of the new fishing season.
In Ankara, the Metropolitan Municipality’s Veterinary Affairs Department is conducting daily inspections at the Wholesale Fish Market. Teams perform sensory examinations and length measurements on fish before they reach retail stalls to ensure food safety and quality. Officials are coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding any products found to be unsuitable for consumption.
In the waters off Didim, Aydın, the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry conducted comprehensive inspections of fishing vessels. These operations included both surface and underwater checks by divers to ensure compliance with regulations. Inspectors reviewed vessel documentation, monitored anchovy quotas, and measured fish sizes to ensure they met legal requirements. Authorities also provided guidance to fishermen on sustainable practices and current legislation.
