Turkey intensifies search for missing student Gülistan Doku in Tunceli

Investigators continue the search for Gülistan Doku, a 2nd‑year Child Development student at Munzur University who vanished on 5 January 2020 in Tunceli. Fifteen suspects were detained in connection with the case; twelve have been jailed while three remain under judicial control.

Fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who was arrested abroad and placed on an Interpol red notice, is awaiting extradition to Turkey. Before his capture, Altaş told authorities that the body might be near a landfill beside a water‑treatment plant in the Aktuluk neighbourhood of Bayraktepe. Coordinated by the Interior and Justice ministries, Gendarmerie Search‑Rescue units have deployed infrared imaging and three‑dimensional subsurface scanning around Dinar River, the university perimeter, and the Sarısaltuk viaduct. The investigation remains active as teams examine the highlighted areas.
