Turkey investigates Iranian involvement in soldier's death

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense is investigating whether an Iranian shot caused the death of Infantry Contracted Private Yusuf Sait Ünlü. The incident occurred on October 31 in the Yüksekova district of Hakkâri during an intervention against an illegal border crossing.

Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk announced that judicial and administrative investigations are underway. Following the incident, Turkish officials met with Iranian authorities on November 3, and Iranian officials have reportedly initiated their own judicial inquiry to clarify the circumstances.

In the same briefing, the Ministry reported that Infantry Specialist Sergeant Oğuz Şahin also passed away on November 2 in the Çaldıran district of Van due to illness. Additionally, the Ministry noted that six PKK members surrendered within the last week and that 665 individuals, including eight terror organization members, were apprehended during illegal border crossing attempts.
