Turkey implements widespread swimming bans due to severe weather
Adverse weather conditions, including high waves and strong winds, have prompted widespread swimming bans and safety concerns across several Turkish provinces.
In Istanbul, authorities have banned sea access in several districts, including Şile, Arnavutköy, Sarıyer, and Beykoz, due to high wave heights. In Bartın, 11 different beaches have been closed to swimmers for several days to mitigate the risks of rip currents and dangerous sea conditions.
Other regions facing restrictions include Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, Kastamonu, Trabzon, Giresun, and Kocaeli. Local governorships and district authorities have implemented these measures to ensure public safety against potential drowning and storm-related hazards.
Separately, in Antalya, business owners at Konyaaltı Beach have expressed concerns regarding the lack of safety buoys in certain sections of the coastline, citing increased risks for swimmers during the peak summer season.
