Turkey jails two journalists over 2009 crash investigation

Turkish authorities have jailed two journalists, Emre Soncan and Mehmet Yaşar Durukan, pending trial as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2009 helicopter crash that killed nationalist politician Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu. They are among 36 individuals detained in the latest phase of the probe.

Allegations against Soncan involve his efforts to share footage related to the crash with the media. Meanwhile, Durukan faces accusations of having contact with the Gülen movement and attempting to influence the inquiry by implicating former Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former military chief İlker Başbuğ. Durukan has previously denied similar allegations of interfering in the investigation.
