Turkey jet crash and Greece wildfire evacuations reported

A Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed in Yalova, in the northwestern part of Turkey, during a training flight on Wednesday, August 12. The Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that the pilot successfully ejected and survived the incident. While the pilot was taken to a hospital, no other injuries were reported. The crash occurred near an airbase, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause.

In Greece, wildfires have reached the Chalcidice Peninsula in the northern part of the country, leading to the evacuation of 300 people, including tourists from a nearby hotel. The fires, which previously affected forests and agricultural land, have escalated to threaten buildings. Emergency response efforts involve 155 firefighters, 55 fire engines, nine firefighting aircraft, and seven helicopters. Two firefighters were injured during the operation. High temperatures and strong winds are complicating containment efforts. Authorities are investigating whether a fallen high-voltage power pole caused the blaze.
