Hopa, Turkey: Unmanned aerial vehicle destroyed after discovery off coast FAST-MOVING
A suspicious object, initially assessed as a potential unmanned sea vehicle, was spotted near Sugören Fishing Harbor in Hopa, Artvin. The discovery prompted immediate security measures, including the temporary two-way closure of the Kemalpaşa-Hopa highway due to the object's proximity to the shore.
Following underwater imaging by marine police and subsequent analysis by SAS Commando units, the object was identified as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Artvin Governor Dr. Turan Ergün stated that while the object approached the coast within 50 meters, it was eventually drifting approximately 400 meters offshore.
Security forces established a 600-meter safety perimeter. SAS Commando units arrived via military aircraft to conduct a controlled detonation. The object was successfully destroyed in open water, and officials confirmed that no residential evacuations were necessary and the highway has been reopened to traffic.
