Artificial intelligence impact grows in education and emotional support

Reports highlight the growing societal and psychological impact of artificial intelligence. In the United Kingdom, data from the AI Security Institute (AISI) shows that 33% of people have used AI for emotional support or social interaction in the past year, with some users exhibiting withdrawal-like symptoms during service outages.

In Turkey, the TEDMEM report notes that 40% of AI users are under the age of 25. The report warns of a “cognitive transfer” where thinking and analysis are outsourced to machines, and an “emotional transfer” where a few tech companies could disproportionately influence the emotions and beliefs of millions of young people. TEDMEM has proposed an “AI License” for high school graduates to ensure ethical and competent usage.

Additionally, Turkey has introduced a 2026-2030 AI Action Plan. This initiative aims to provide AI literacy to 5 million citizens within 24 months and includes the establishment of a National AI Ethics Board. The plan also focuses on transitioning robotic and autonomous systems from the defense sector to civilian applications, such as healthcare and surgery support.
