Turkey launches Gastronomy High Schools project in Erzurum

The Turkish Ministry of National Education has launched the Turkey Gastronomy High Schools Project, aimed at preserving the nation's rich culinary heritage and training qualified professional chefs. The project's first implementation will take place at the Ülker Gastronomy Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Erzurum, which features specialized workshops for meat and dairy products, including meat cutting and cooking.

The initiative plans to establish specialized schools across seven geographical regions of Turkey, each focusing on local culinary expertise:

• Erzurum: Meat and dairy products • Istanbul: Palace cuisine, helva making, sherbet, and dessert arts • Gaziantep: Baklava craftsmanship and Southeast Anatolian flavors • Konya: Bakery craftsmanship and Seljuk Anatolian cuisine • Izmir: Aegean culinary arts and baking • Hatay: Mediterranean culinary arts and desserts • Trabzon: Black Sea regional flavors and baking

Students at the Erzurum school will undergo a five-year program, including an English preparatory year. The curriculum combines theoretical lessons with practical kitchen training, covering Turkish and international cuisines, hygiene, and food safety.
