Turkey launches major highway projects in Afyonkarahisar and Kocaeli
The Bozüyük‑Afyonkarahisar Otoyolu, a 87.2‑km highway linking the Marmara and Mediterranean regions, is slated for an environmental impact assessment meeting on 6 August 2026 in Bozüyük. The project, overseen by the General Directorate of Highways, carries a total investment of roughly 37.37 billion TL and will include three tunnels, 14 viaducts, 10 interchanges, 13 overpasses and 45 underpasses.
In Kocaeli, the İlimtepe Bağlantı Yolu 2. Etap is a 4.7‑km divided road, of which a 2‑km segment will serve as a new connection. The contract, signed in June with Proyap İnşaat A.Ş. and İnterkon Mühendislik Müşavirlik A.Ş., calls for construction to begin shortly and to be completed within 600 calendar days. The project will involve roughly 911,000 m³ of excavation and 100,000 m³ of fill, aiming to reduce traffic loads and extend the route toward the North Marmara Motorway.
