Turkey launches major stray‑animal shelter projects in Trabzon and Bursa
In Trabzon, authorities have begun building a 57‑hectare natural‑habitat shelter on the border of Kaynarca (Maçka) and Akçakale (Akçaabat). The project, announced by Governor Tahir Şahin and Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, aims to house up to 5,000 stray animals and is slated for completion within three months.
In Bursa’s Yenişehir district, a 13,000‑square‑metre animal rehabilitation centre was opened. The facility includes fully equipped surgery rooms, intensive‑care units, imaging equipment and dedicated mother‑young spaces. Managed by an eight‑person specialist team, it targets sterilising around 60 animals a month, currently housing 200 animals with capacity to expand to 400. The centre will also serve as an educational hub for children on animal welfare.
Both projects are presented as a permanent solution to stray‑animal problems, combining modern veterinary care with public‑safety goals.
