Turkey honors 15 July coup anniversary with new film, radio drama and documentary

TRT Sinema’s short film "On Kere Daha" will premiere on TRT 1 on 15 July, marking the tenth anniversary of the failed coup. Produced by Hisse Temaşa and directed by Ömer Miraç Tunç, the film follows a 25‑year‑old factory worker named Bayram and explores his spiritual journey toward martyrdom, drawing inspiration from a hadith. The screenplay was written by Yusuf Faruk Tunç, and the cast includes Yiğit Ege Yazar as Bayram and Şahin Sekman as Ziya, highlighting the role of the Roman community during the night of resistance.

TRT Dinle is also releasing the radio‑theatre series "Bir Destandır 15 Temmuz" as part of its Arkası Yarın project. The eleven‑episode drama, written by Yusuf Dursun, recounts the coup‑night events from the perspective of three high‑school friends and interweaves stories of soldiers defending a military base.

Additionally, the documentary‑film "Rojiya Jiyanê" ("Life Fast") about the historic 14 July 1982 death‑fast protest in Diyarbakır’s 5th Military Prison will be broadcast on 12 July. Produced by Art Records and created by TEV ÇAND and the Middle‑East Cinema Academy, the film revisits the prisoners’ resistance and its legacy.

Together, these cultural productions aim to preserve collective memory of the 15 July democratic struggle and related acts of resistance in Turkey.
