Turkey launches social housing project for police officers

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi has announced a new social housing initiative aimed at improving living conditions for police officers. The project, managed by the Police Maintenance and Assistance Fund (POLSAN), will begin with a pilot program in Ankara, where 2,000 residential units will be constructed on 86 acres of land purchased from TOKİ. The foundation for the Ankara project is scheduled to be laid in January.

To ensure affordability, the homes will be sold to police officers at cost without profit, allowing them to own property through long-term installments similar to rent payments. Following the Ankara pilot, the program is intended to expand nationwide. Additionally, the Minister stated that the number of police lodgings in Istanbul will be increased to 5,000. Resources previously allocated to vehicle fleet renewals for the Police, Gendarmerie, and Coast Guard are being redirected toward these housing and lodging needs.
