Turkey Leads Cost‑Benefit for German Vacationers Amid Rising Prices
German families weighing holiday accommodation face a trade‑off between hotel convenience and the space and flexibility of vacation rentals. Hotels bundle services such as breakfast, daily cleaning and child‑friendly amenities, which can ease short stays but may raise per‑night costs, especially when meals are taken on‑site. Vacation rentals provide larger living areas, kitchens and the potential to save on food expenses, making them economically attractive for longer trips or larger groups, though they require more planning for meals and housekeeping.
According to the German Banking Association, Turkey now offers the highest purchasing‑power advantage for German tourists. One euro spent in Turkey buys goods and services worth roughly €1.79 in Germany, a boost driven by the lira’s depreciation despite a 30%‑plus inflation rate and a 36% rise in local hotel and restaurant prices. Other European destinations with notable price benefits include Poland (1 € ≈ €1.47), Hungary, Greece and Spain. Conversely, northern countries such as Denmark and Switzerland remain the most expensive for German travelers, delivering less than €0.80 of German purchasing power per euro spent.
