Turkey levies heavy fines for illegal street slaughter during Eid al-Adha
During the Eid al-Adha holiday, Turkish authorities will enforce strict penalties on anyone who slaughters livestock in public spaces such as parks, streets, or building entrances. Violators face an administrative fine of 8,687 TL per incident, while those who bury animal waste in the ground are subject to a 20,842 TL fine.
Facilities that fail to comply with waste‑disposal rules can be fined up to 839,122 TL for mass slaughter operations, and individuals who bury waste from private residences may also be penalised. Additional fines target animal cruelty: 13,333 TL per animal for mistreatment, 4,344 TL for unsanitary conditions at sales points, and 18,243 TL for non‑humane slaughter practices. The Interior, Agriculture and Forestry, and Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change ministries, together with local municipalities, will conduct inspections throughout the holiday to ensure compliance and protect public health and the environment.
