Turkey's July 2026 pension hike sparks payment rollout and reforms

In July 2026 Turkey raised the minimum pension to 23,552 TL. The inflation‑adjusted increase gives SSK and Bağ‑Kur retirees a 17.76 % raise and civil‑service retirees a 13.52 % raise.

The Social Security Institution (SGK) began disbursing the higher amounts on 17 July for SSK beneficiaries, with payments scheduled by the last digit of the allocation number through 26 July. Bağ‑Kur retirees receive their payments between 25 July and 28 July under a similar digit‑based timetable. Retirees whose combined base and extra payments remain below the new 23,552 TL floor will initially receive the old 20,000 TL amount, with the remaining 3,552 TL difference to be transferred later according to a special SGK calendar.

Parliament has also tabled a law to stop bank‑account seizures of retirees’ pension funds and to extend protection to other social‑security benefits. A broader social‑security reform proposes need‑based supplemental payments for low‑income pensioners, shifting from uniform raises to targeted support.

Public reaction has been mixed; many retirees have taken to the streets to protest that the modest increase does not offset rising living costs, while officials point to the additional 3,552 TL gap payments as a corrective measure.
