Turkey cuts dried‑onion import duty to 5% until Aug 31, 2026
The Turkish Ministry of Trade, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, announced a temporary reduction of the customs duty on dried onion imports from the standard 49.5% to 5%. The measure, published in the Official Gazette, is intended to safeguard supply and keep consumer prices stable after heavy rains in 2026 delayed the domestic harvest.
The reduced rate applies until 31 August 2026. From 1 September 2026 the duty will revert to 49.5%, allowing the new season’s harvest to enter the market without import competition. The decree also exempts certain preferential‑trade partners (Bosnia‑Herzegovina, Singapore and Kosovo) from the change. The ministry said it will continue to monitor market balances and adjust policies as needed.
