Turkey maintains bans on Discord and LGBT+ NGOs' X accounts

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) in Turkey has kept the access block on the communication platform Discord in place. Officials say Discord is working to meet Turkey’s security and content‑moderation requirements, but no official date for lifting the ban has been announced.

Separately, X (formerly Twitter) has blocked dozens of accounts belonging to LGBT+ organisations and civil‑society groups after a BTK request. The blocked accounts include 17 Mayıs, GALADER, Genç LGBTİ+, Lambdaİstanbul and several others. The restriction was applied under article 8/A of law 5651 concerning illegal online content, citing recent anti‑LGBT+ legislation in the 12th Judicial Package. X stated it complied with the legal request and informed the organisations of the action.
