Turkey maps 172 martyr cemeteries across 48 countries

The General Directorate of Mapping has released the ‘Overseas Turkish Martyr Cemeteries and Monuments Map,’ documenting 172 Turkish martyr sites located across 48 different countries. The project, which involved approximately one year of research, aims to record the locations and historical details of these sites.

To ensure data integrity, the mapping process was coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). Historical accuracy was further verified through collaboration with the Atatürk High Council of Culture, Language and History, the National Defense University, and the Archives and Military History Department (ATASE).

The map provides more than just geographic locations; it includes detailed visual representations of period-accurate uniforms, weaponry, ships, and aircraft to reflect the historical context of the era. Officials noted that the map may be updated in the future as additional undocumented sites are identified through historical records and memoirs.
