National Medical Rescue Team marks UMKE Week with drills and exhibitions
In observance of National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) Week, various activities were held in Turkey to highlight the role of volunteer medical responders in disaster management.
In Manisa, a symposium and practical rescue drills were conducted in collaboration with Manisa Celal Bayar University and the Provincial Health Directorate. The drills simulated responses to earthquakes, natural gas explosions, and traffic accidents, involving UMKE, AFAD, and fire departments to demonstrate coordination and life-saving techniques in emergency scenarios.
In Bursa, the Provincial Health Directorate organized an art exhibition at a shopping mall. Volunteer painters showcased works depicting the sacrifices and intense efforts of UMKE personnel during floods, landslides, fires, and earthquakes. The event also included displays of medical equipment used by the teams to raise public awareness about the importance of volunteerism in emergency medical services.
