Turkey Ministry of Agriculture changes beef carcass pricing criteria
The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has implemented a new regulation regarding the pricing of beef carcasses. According to the amendment published in the Official Gazette, the market price for beef carcasses will now be determined based on hot carcass weight rather than cold carcass weight.
Previously, the choice between hot or cold weight could lead to discrepancies in buying and selling transactions due to moisture loss during the cooling process. By establishing hot carcass weight as the sole criterion, the regulation aims to prevent losses related to weight reduction during cooling.
Additionally, the regulation updates administrative responsibilities within the Ministry. Oversight of these processes has been transferred from the General Directorate of Food and Control to the General Directorate of Livestock.
