Turkey Ministry of Agriculture identifies 44 adulterated food products
The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has released an updated list of 44 food products found to be counterfeit or adulterated as of August 20, 2026. The findings reveal widespread issues across multiple food categories, most notably in dairy and meat products.
Dairy products accounted for over half of the entries, with 25 products identified as containing low fat content, melting salts, or vegetable oils instead of the declared ingredients. Specific cheese varieties in regions like Bilecik and Aksaray were highlighted for these discrepancies.
Meat products showed significant violations, including the use of poultry meat in beef and lamb products, such as Adana kebap from a branch of Ciğerci Bahattin in Sakarya. More alarmingly, inspections in Kırklareli, Mersin, and Manisa revealed the presence of single-hoofed animal meat, specifically horse and donkey, in various sausage products and meat mixes like tantuni and lahmacun.
Other findings included the use of offal such as heart and head meat in minced meat products, and the presence of starch and vegetable oil in yogurt. The Ministry stated that inspections will continue across all provinces to ensure food safety and prevent unfair competition.
