Turkey Ministry of Energy prioritizes mining safety and environment

Abdullah Tancan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, has emphasized that occupational health, safety, and environmental protection are non-negotiable priorities for Turkey's mining sector. Speaking at the opening of the 4th Mine Rescue Competition, Tancan stated that while mining is strategic for national development and energy transition, success is not measured solely by production volume but by the ability to protect workers and the environment.

To ensure safety, the Ministry has implemented a tiered inspection system based on risk levels. Low-risk mines are inspected at least once a year, medium-risk mines at least twice a year, and high-risk mines at least four times a year. Tancan noted that these inspections are intended to serve as educational guides rather than just punitive measures, aiming to strengthen a culture of safety through technology and digitalization.
