Turkey reports 81.97 billion TL in smuggling seizures and major illegal betting crackdowns
Turkey's Ministry of Trade reported that its Customs Enforcement General Directorate seized 81.97 billion TL worth of commercial goods and narcotics during 4,397 operations in the first eight months of 2026. These seizures included 49.7 tons of narcotics and over 5 million pieces of medical supplies.
Simultaneously, law enforcement agencies conducted several large-scale operations against illegal betting and gambling syndicates across multiple provinces. In an operation centered in Aydın, 26 suspects were arrested following the detection of 11 billion TL in suspicious financial traffic. Another operation in Kocaeli led to 25 arrests in a crackdown on a criminal organization. In Manisa, gendarmerie forces detained 23 suspects, with MASAK identifying a 1.3 billion TL transaction volume linked to illegal betting over the last five years. In Adıyaman, 15 individuals were arrested for facilitating illegal betting networks.
