Turkey Ministry of Trade targets real estate fraud via EİDS

Turkey's Ministry of Trade is intensifying efforts to combat real estate fraud and unauthorized listings through the Electronic Advertisement Verification System (EİDS). Under this system, real estate advertisements can only be posted by the property owner, their spouse, first or second-degree relatives, or authorized real estate businesses.

Recent inspections conducted under EİDS have resulted in administrative fines totaling 72.5 million lira imposed on 1,288 businesses. To address loopholes on social media, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat announced that new regulations are being considered to allow the use of photos and videos in social media real estate posts, provided they include a verified EİDS advertisement link and necessary information.

Experts warn consumers to be vigilant against fraudulent listings on social media and messaging apps, where unauthorized individuals often bypass official rules. Key recommendations for buyers include verifying that the person posting the ad matches the identity on the title deed, researching company reputations, and avoiding down payments on listings that appear significantly below market value.
