Turkey monitors growing Greece-Israel military cooperation

Military cooperation between Greece and Israel is drawing intense scrutiny and criticism from Turkey. Turkish media outlets have highlighted the expanding partnership, which includes joint exercises and collaboration in sectors such as drones, air defense, and cybersecurity. Some reports suggest Israel is providing air training infrastructure in Greece, potentially strengthening the Israel-Cyprus-Greece axis in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In response to these developments, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler stated that Ankara is closely monitoring the situation and has already taken ‘necessary measures’ to protect Turkish rights and interests. The tension is fueled by reports that Greece may be upgrading its air defense capabilities with Israeli technology, potentially deploying such systems on Greek islands near the Turkish coast. The issue has reached the Turkish Parliament, where officials have demanded formal responses regarding the strengthening of the Athens-Tel Aviv axis.
