Turkey moves to reassign governors, district heads and judges in summer decree

The Interior Ministry is drafting a summer decree that would relocate a large number of provincial governors (valis) and district governors (kaymakams) across dozens of provinces and districts. The draft, expected to be signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette, also foresees moving several officials to the central administration.

The Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HSK) is finalising a parallel summer decree that would change the posting of nearly 5,000 judges and prosecutors, including some provincial chief prosecutors and their deputies. The decree is slated for publication on 12 June, with a possible one‑week delay. Both measures aim to strengthen administrative efficiency and reorganise the judicial workforce.

If approved, the decrees will trigger a broad reshuffle of Turkey’s civil‑service and judicial apparatus, affecting many local jurisdictions nationwide.
