Turkey marks Mosques and Religious Officials Week
Various regional observances were held across Turkey to mark ‘Mosques and Religious Officials Week’. The theme for this year’s commemorations is ‘Mosque and Social Life’, emphasizing the role of mosques as centers for social cohesion, solidarity, and community support beyond religious worship.
In Afyonkarahisar, Turgut Erhan, Head of the Mosque Services Department of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, delivered a lecture on how mosques historically served as social hubs for decision-making and justice. In Sivas, events included a tribute dinner for retired religious officials and a children's concert focused on raising awareness for Gaza.
Other regional activities included a program in Oltu designed to introduce students with special needs to mosque environments and religious services. In Trabzon, officials met with the TURAN ÜLKÜSÜ Association to discuss the responsibilities of religious staff regarding human rights and the Turkish-Islamic world. Additionally, in Havza, Samsun, officials highlighted the importance of mosques in maintaining spiritual values and social unity.
