Turkey observes Normal Birth Week with maternal health initiatives

In observance of Normal Birth Week (October 1–7), health programs and expert guidance have been highlighted in Turkey to support maternal and infant health.

In Eskişehir, the Provincial Directorate of Health organized an information program at the Deliklitaş Healthy Life Center. The event provided pregnant women and new mothers with information regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Eskişehir Provincial Health Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yaşar Bildirici emphasized the vital role of midwives, noting the ‘A Midwife for Every Pregnant Woman’ approach, which includes monitoring patients both in health facilities and at home. Additionally, the ‘Maternity Journey’ mobile application is being utilized to guide expectant mothers.

Medical experts, including Obstetrician Dr. Kübra Karakolcu from Liv Hospital Ulus, stressed that childbirth decisions must be individualized rather than following a one-size-fits-all prescription. Dr. Karakolcu noted that the primary goal is to protect the health and safety of both mother and baby, requiring careful consideration of medical history and real-time clinical needs during labor. Regular prenatal check-ups and open communication with healthcare teams are recommended to manage expectations and ensure safe care.
