Turkey observes World Palliative Care Day with hospital events

Various healthcare institutions in Turkey held events to observe World Palliative Care Day, focusing on the importance of improving the quality of life for patients and providing spiritual and psychosocial support.

In Konya, Konya Numune Hospital organized a program involving patients, relatives, and medical staff. Konya Provincial Health Director Assoc. Prof. Yusuf Yavuz emphasized that palliative care is a specialized service that touches human lives directly through human connections. The event included a musical performance and a Sema ceremony by the Konya Turkish Sufi Music Ensemble. Hospital Chief Physician Op. Dr. Ali Haydar Dadacı highlighted the role of palliative care in ensuring patients feel safe and peaceful.

In Gümüşhane, students and academics from the Gümüşhane University Health Services Vocational School visited the Gümüşhane State Hospital Palliative Care Service. The visit included a cake-cutting ceremony, the presentation of flowers and rose water to patients, and discussions aimed at fostering solidarity. The participants emphasized that palliative care aims to protect human dignity and meet the holistic needs of patients and their families, rather than just alleviating symptoms.
