Utility maintenance and solar eclipse trigger service disruptions
Various regions in Turkey and the United Kingdom are facing scheduled utility disruptions due to infrastructure maintenance and upcoming natural phenomena.
In Turkey, widespread planned electricity outages are scheduled for several provinces, including Aydın, İzmir, Gaziantep, and Mersin, to facilitate network improvements and maintenance. Additionally, significant water supply interruptions are expected in Istanbul, affecting eight districts for up to 20 hours, and in Bursa, where maintenance in Nilüfer and Yenişehir will impact water availability.
In the United Kingdom, energy supplier Octopus Energy has requested that customers avoid using high-power appliances, such as washing machines and dishwashers, for a two-hour window during an upcoming solar eclipse. This request aims to mitigate a projected 1.3 gigawatt loss in solar energy production caused by the eclipse, thereby reducing the need for fossil fuel-based backup power.
