Turkey plans pension support for housewives

The Turkish Ministry of Labour and Social Security is preparing a comprehensive reform aimed at providing social security and retirement rights to housewives. The project, which is expected to be supported by the Family and Youth Bank, seeks to integrate women who contribute to the household economy but lack formal employment into the social security system.

A key feature of the proposed model is state financial assistance for voluntary insurance premiums. Under the plan, the government would cover 33.33% of the monthly premium costs. Based on 2026 projections, where the minimum monthly premium is approximately 10,899.90 TL, the state contribution would be roughly 3,633.30 TL per person, reducing the individual's net monthly payment to approximately 7,266.60 TL.
