Turkey arrests 45 in coordinated raids against Barış Boyun crime network

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that Turkish authorities carried out simultaneous operations in seven provinces—Tekirdağ, İzmir, Siirt, Samsun, Tokat, Şanlıurfa and Istanbul—targeting the organized crime group led by Barış Boyun. The raids hit 113 addresses and resulted in the detention of 54 suspects, of whom 45 were taken into custody while nine remain at large.

Among those arrested were six lawyers accused of influencing testimonies and funneling money to the gang. The investigations, coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Istanbul Police Department, are part of a larger probe that has so far led to charges against roughly 700 people. The network’s leader is subject to a red notice and is currently held in Italy.

The operation was presented as part of a broader effort to dismantle street gangs and organized armed crime groups that threaten public order and safety in Turkey.
