Turkish police hand down hefty fines after a series of traffic violations
On June 10 in Kayseri's Melikgazi district, a motorcycle lost control and struck a father and son who were checking a trash container. Both were injured; the family filed a criminal complaint and urged harsh punishment for the foreign‑national rider.
In Edirne, police used the city‑wide traffic‑monitoring system to stop a car that was drifting and running a red light while the driver had a blood‑alcohol level of 1.95 ‰. The driver was fined 257,719 TL, had his licence suspended for ten months and the vehicle impounded for 60 days.
A separate traffic check in Edirne caught a 19‑year‑old learner driver intoxicated. He received a fine of 50,902 TL and an indefinite licence cancellation, prompting him to repeat driver training.
In Bodrum, Muğla province, an intoxicated driver ignored a police “stop” order, fled, collided with a police officer and then with a motorcycle, injuring the officer and two cyclists. The offender was fined 330,000 TL and his car banned from traffic for 60 days.
All incidents were captured on security cameras and resulted in administrative penalties.
