Bahçeli calls for Erdoğan to run for a third term in 2028

Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), has called for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to run for a third term in the upcoming elections. During the first group meeting of the 28th term of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Bahçeli stated that it is the desire and request of the People's Alliance that Erdoğan serves as the presidential candidate once again.

To facilitate this, Bahçeli proposed that the Grand National Assembly should pass a decision to renew elections. He emphasized that if such a decision is made with broad consensus, the elections should still be held within the year 2028 to ensure political stability and predictability. Bahçeli argued that Erdoğan's experience is vital for Turkey as it faces significant domestic and international developments.

Additionally, Bahçeli expressed a political vision where Erdoğan remains in the executive branch while the MHP holds influence in the legislative branch by 2028. He also touched upon the goal of a 'Terror-free Turkey' and emphasized the importance of institutional reform and the role of Ankara as a center of justice on the global stage.
